Welcome to our school website. We hope that this site gives you an insight into the range of opportunities and experiences we offer and our ethos of care, enjoyment and achievement and of the high expectations we set for pupil growth both academically and emotionally.
Ysgol Bryn Gwalia has a wonderful atmosphere where learning and respect is at its heart. You can sense this as soon as you walk through the gates. Everyone feels valued and the children develop into caring citizens who are knowledgeable and thoughtful about Wales and the world in which they live. Staff work very hard to create lessons and learning experiences which are stimulating and challenging.
The school has demonstrated exceptional leadership in making financial education a sustained whole-school priority. Its published vision and accompanying rationale are among the clearest and most compelling examples seen within the programme: coherent, aspirational, practical and inclusive of pupils, families and the wider community.
Ysgol Bryn Gwalia is a nurturing, inclusive school, which provides exceptional care and support for its pupils. Relationships across the school are strong and parents, pupils and staff feel valued. Provision for pupils’ well-being is a strength of the school.
The headteacher is a compassionate, caring leader who works successfully alongside the governing body and staff to drive school improvement.
Senior leaders have a clear vision for developing pupils’ application of literacy, numeracy and digital skills across the school. There is a strong focus on consistency of approach and ensuring learning is meaningful to pupils. Long-term planning for literacy and numeracy has been integrated well into the school’s
curriculum.
Active and applied learning is a particular strength... The Hope Hut is an outstanding example of financial education serving the wider community: developed with creative-industry partners, it responds sensitively to local need, involves parents in its operation and has received a community award from Mold Council.
The youngest pupils listen and respond well to adults and play
alongside each other amicably. Reception pupils develop increasing confidence in their speaking skills, using a wider range of words. Older pupils work effectively in groups to discuss and share their thoughts about their learning.
Ysgol Bryn Gwalia provides a caring, inclusive learning environment, which caters effectively for the needs of its pupils. Provision for pupils with ALN is strong.
Teachers build positive relationships with pupils and their families, enabling staff to identify pupils’ strengths and potential barriers to learning. This supports staff well to provide a bespoke range of interventions to meet pupils’ needs.
The school’s provision for pupil well-being is highly effective. Staff know their pupils well and work closely with leaders to monitor pupil behaviour, attendance and self-esteem.
Across the school, trained support staff provide beneficial
emotional support to pupils. This helps pupils to discuss their feelings and consider ways to improve how they feel. As a result, most pupils develop strategies to manage their behaviour and emotions successfully. This is a strength of the school.
Leaders promote a positive culture of safeguarding with robust systems and measures in place to ensure the safety and security of all.
